Manchester United offer fitness update on centre-back

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has faced serious injury problems over the past few years, and the young Englishman’s career has, unfortunately, stagnated due to his fitness.

Tuanzebe went on to great things at Old Trafford and in 2019, he captained the first team against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup, becoming one of the very few players to captain the Reds at any age.

In 2020, he made headlines for his impressive 2-1 performance at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, which could have been a great start, but instead, he fell out of favor under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian boss preferred Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire and Tuansebe has not featured for United in a competitive game since the 2020/21 season.

With just a year left on his contract, Tuanzebe’s future at United is up in the air, and it hasn’t helped that the 25-year-old missed pre-season under Erik den Haag.

He was unavailable for selection in the first half of the season, but now, the club has released a statement and given an update on his fitness.

According to the official Manchester United website, Tuanzebe is ‘working hard’ to regain full fitness and plans to return to football in the second half of the season.

Tuanzebe is said to be completing his rehabilitation at the club’s Carrington training complex, with the Manchester-based defender completing a mid-season training camp in Spain to engage in his personalized training programme.
